Departed Port of Everett, Washington State

On the very first day of the Liberator II's journey, there was an injury to Captain Ernie when a cable that he was cutting lashed back and cut his eye.  So, the first place of port to tuck in for the night was in Port Townsend Bay, Washington.  Port Townsend Bay, also called Port Townsend, is a marine inlet off of Admiralty Inlet at the northeastern extreme of the Olympic Peninsula.

PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON STATE
From Port Townsend, Washington, the Liberator II sailed on to Port of Port Angeles, Washington and anchored at John Wayne Marina in Sequim Bay.  So, how did the marina in Sequim Bay get the name "John Wayne Marina"?  John Wayne frequented the Sequim Bay waters aboard his family yacht the "Wild Goose" and prior to his death, he envisioned a marina in the scenic bay that he personally enjoyed.   In 1985, the John Wayne Family donated 22 acres of land to make the envision a reality.

This photo was taken from the
aft of the ship while at sea during the Liberator II's route to the John Wayne Marina.  While anchored there, Captain Ernie, Cindy and their crew enjoyed good food, wonderful friends and sweet fellowship aboard the ship before buckling down and setting sail for the seas once again on Sunday.

While in route down the coast to Santa Barbara, California, the Liberator II crew experienced their first mechanical challenge when the steering pump malfunctioned as well as a storm front was on it's way...So for safety they turned back and tucked into the Westport Marina in the Port of Grays Harbor, Westport, Washington for a few days.

WESPORT MARINA, GRAYS HARBOR BAY, WASHINGTON STATE
Welcome Liberator II, to Westport Marina, located in Grays Harbor Bay, on the Pacific Ocean, an estuarine bay located on the south-west Pacific Coast of Washington State on the south side of the entrance. Westport Marina is the largest marina on the outer coast of the Pacific Northwest and is the home to a large commercial fishing fleet as well as many recreational charter fishing vessels.
Now with the steering issue resolved and waiting for a window of better maritime weather, the Liberator II, after much rocking and rolling, set sail out of the channel and on their way to their next destination, the Santa Barbara Harbor, California. The Liberator II and crew set sail late Tuesday morning, the 13th of October.

    PORT OF NEWPORT, OREGON
Sunday, October 18, 2015: For the sake of time and attending an important family event, the Liberator II took a slight detour and harbored in the Port of Newport, Oregon for a few days before pressing onward down the Pacific Coast.  The Port of Newport is located on Oregon central coast in the city of Newport and encompasses approximately 59 square miles with an estimated population of 10,800.
